The prestigious CBSE North Zone- II Tennis Tournament 2014 commenced at DAV International School with a cultural fiesta. Sh. Sandeep Rishi, Chairman, Amritsar Improvement Trust, was the Chief Guest. S. Kuljinder Singh Malhi, AEO, Sports also graced the occasion as the Special Guest. Chairman of the school – Dr. V.P. Lakhanpal, CBSE observer Mrs. Meenu Kalia were among the other dignatries.

Principal of the school Ms. Anjana Gupta accorded a special welcome to all the esteemed guests.                 The inaugural ceremony began with the auspicious lamp lighting ceremony. Chanting of the Earth Anthem and a presentation of Indian Folk Dances were some of the other highlights. Sh. Sandeep Rishi hoisted the CBSE sports Flag and also released colourful balloons to spread the message of peace & prosperity. 300 sports persons of different schools of North Zone-II Punjab & Haryana CBSE schools presented a March Post followed by the oath taking ceremony.

In his address to the participants and the august audience, Sh. Sandeep Rishi emphasized on the importance of sports in a student’s life. He insisted that sports must be integrated with other subjects as it teaches some important lessons of life.

Chairman of the school – Dr. V.P. Lakhanpal, in his welcome address, highlighted that students should participate in such sports tournaments without bothering about winning or losing and just concentrating on giving their best possible performance.

On this occasion CBSE observer Mrs. Meenu Kalia, Sh. Rankirat Singh, Chief Refree Sh. Rakesh Bhrany and Director of Laurel Academy Sh. N.S. Chahal were also present.

The event concluded with the recital of National Anthem.
