DAV National Sports Girls’ Tournament inaugurated at DAVIS with great fanfare
Under the patronage of Sh. J P Shoor, Director Public schools I & aided schools, New Delhi and tutelage of Regional Director, Dr. (Ms.) Neelam Kamra and Principal Anjana Gupta, DAV National Sports Girls’ Tournament 2014 commenced at D AV International School, Amritsar on 10th December, 2014. A magnificent ceremony was organised in which Arya Ratan, Sh. Punam Suri, President DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, presided over as the Chief Guest.
The school was decked like a bride for the opening ceremony which was graced by luminaries like Mrs. Mani Suri, Director PS- I & aided schools, New Delhi, Sh. J. P Shoor, Regional Director Dr (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra; Chairman Dr. V P Lakhanpal; Manager Dr. K N Kaul, Mr. B. K Mittal, Secretary DAV CMC, Mr. J K Luthra, Honorary Treasurer DAV CMC, members of LMC, members of various Arya Samajes and Principals of different DAV schools & colleges.
In this three day mega event about 1200 students from 155 DAV schools of 13 different zones of India, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, New Delhi, Gujarat & Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh& Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Odisha, U.P & U.K, Bihar and Punjab are participating to prove their mettle in 17 different games.
The ceremony was inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by the floral welcome. Melodious performance of DAV Gaan was given by the students which was followed by a warm welcome address by Sh. J P in which he congratulated the host Principal for organizing such a grand event and glorified the untiring efforts of the Chief guest Sh. Punam Suri in the betterment of the DAV organisation. He also insisted that for the participants, participation in sports should be the prime motive rather than winning. A soul-stirring dramatization of some inspirational episodes from the exemplary life of Mahatma Anand Swami ji was also presented by 150 young DAVIANS which cast a spell on the audience. Thereafter, the DAV sports flag was unfurled by the revered Guest and balloons and pigeons were also released. The Chief Guest Sh. Punam Suri, in his presidential speech, summoned children to participate in the competition in the high spirit of sportsmanship. He also said that the players must not think of victory while participating in this tournament as they have already proved their caliber by winning at cluster & zonal level and by qualifying for the nationals. He stressed on the importance of practicality of knowledge. He enlightened the participants with his words of wisdom saying that through hard work God prepares them for different life situations. DAV National Sports Girls Tournament information Brochure, the Sports Brochure of Amritsar zone and the annual magazine of DAV International School, ‘Pratha’ were also released by the esteemed guest of the day.
Regional Director of Amritsar zone, Dr. Ms. Neelam Kamra, while addressing the gathering asserted that sports can also play a major role in transforming the societies and shaping the youth. She urged that more & more youngsters should take active part in sports and shun bad habits afflicting the societies. Principal Ms. Anjana Gupta proudly shared with the audience the glorious achievements of the institute and highlighted the ideals of Mahatma Anand Swami.
In order to pay homage to the cultural diversity and rich heritage of India, pageants representing different states, comprising of 1200 sportspersons, were shown in the March past. Various national sports winners of the school carried the relay torch to its final destination. After declaring the tournament open, the Chief Guest of the day, Sh. Punam Suri was honoured with a token of love by the galaxy of intellectuals present.
The function concluded with the singing of National Anthem.
