DAVIANS pledged to say yes to life and no to Tobacco
To spread the awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco a 'SAY NO TO TOBACCO' day was observed in DAV International School, Amritsar, on 31st May, 2014.
In order to highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocate for effective policies to reduce consumption, students of different grades of DAVIS participated in the different activities organized on the school premises. A special morning assembly was organized in which the students of grade VI- VIII were enlightened about the pitfalls of tobacco. Students took pledge to stay away from this iniquity. Different competitions like Poster making, Cartooning, Story Writing and Essay Writing were conducted, in which the students depicted the ill- effects of smoking, showing how people become prisoners of tobacco and make an ash of themselves by smoking. They also highlighted the negative effects of the use of tobacco and gruesome facts such as increase in the cases of cancers of lung every year. To Commemorate 'World No Tobacco Day', NCC students carried a rally to spread a word of caution among the masses. The school also uploaded a short jingle on ‘Say no to Tobacco’ on the YouTube link of CBSE.
On this occasion, Principal Anjana Gupta said that World No Tobacco day comes with an extremely relevant message. To live in a pollution-free environment, we must express our support to help create a safe and healthy environment for future generations. Tobacco use leads most commonly to diseases affecting the heart and lungs, with smoking being a major risk factor for heart attacks, stroke and cancer. Therefore efforts should be made to observe the day with fervor and youth should be informed about the ill- effects of this malevolence. She applauded the efforts of students and honoured the winners of different competitions.
