In order to promote and integrate gender sensitivity to the process of education, DAV International School, Amritsar, organized a CBSE workshop for the teachers on a serious topic of Gender Sensitivity on 11th August, 2018. Sixty three participants from around 34 CBSE affiliated schools of Punjab, participated in this workshop. Mrs. Dapinder Kaur, Principal Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Majitha Road, Amritsar, presided over the occasion as the resource person.
The workshop was inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Young Davians accorded a melodious welcome to the resource person and the participants. Principal Anjana Gupta gave floral welcome to the resource person and honored her with a memento. In her welcome speech, she exhorted the participants about the importance of gender sensitivity at work places in the fast changing scenario of modern age. She also outlined that gender discrimination is one of the society’s biggest problems. Although the scenario has changed a lot but much is yet to be done. We need to value and respect the most precious gift of nature i.e. girl child and help her live her dreams.
The resource person talked about the effect of gender discrimination on the present day society. She said that no section of the society is unaffected by it. Girls are considered inferior to boys but as teachers we need to educate the students as well as their parents about the need of gender sensitivity. Boys should be taught to respect girls. CBSE’s programme ‘Udaan’ is a successful step in this direction.
Participants got benefitted from the various topic based activities and talked about different issues and their solutions.
