WORKSHOP ON “CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT”
In order to keep the teachers abreast with the latest strategies to manage the 21st century classroom effectively, a workshop on Classroom Management was held at DAV International School, Amritsar on September 9, 2017. The workshop was organized under the aegis of DAV Centre of Academic Excellence, DAV CMC, New Delhi and the tutelage of Arya Rattan Dr. Punam Suri, Padamshree Awardee, President, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, Sh. J.P. Shoor (Director PS-I & Aided Schools) DAV CMC, New Delhi, Regional Director Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra, Chairman of the school Dr. V.P. Lakhanpal, and the Manager of the school Dr. Rajesh Kumar. The first day of workshop, on the pertinent topic of Classroom Management was conducted by Ms. Anita Mehra, Principal DRB DAV Centenary School, Batala. As Many as 195 teachers of DAV International School participated in the workshop.
The event commenced with the sacred lamp lighting ceremony followed by the floral welcome of the resource person. On this occasion, Principal Anjana Gupta, extended formal welcome to the dignitaries, resource person and the participating teachers and talked about the need and importance of classroom management. Soon after, the resource person began the session.
Right in the beginning, through discussion, it was established that with the changing times, the challenges faced by the teachers in the classroom have also changed and the need to develop and implement rules and procedures to tackle the same is of utmost importance. The resource person showed different videos to help teachers ascertain their individual strengths and weaknesses and the areas that could be improved upon. She talked about various components of classroom management and stressed upon the importance of seating arrangement, clear instructions, teaching aids, teacher- student rapport and soft skills. Real life scenarios in today’s classrooms such as handling special needs’ students, unruly behavior and abusive language as well as adolescent behavior were some of the important issues which were talked about.
The day ended on a thankful note by the participants for the highly informative workshop.
